Have the time?
Are you ready to take the challenge?
How much exercise do you get in a week? Are you ready to be honest with yourself and find out?
For this week’s challenge,
Log how much time you spend in purposeful exercise. Whether you put your time in at the fitness center on the circuit machines, sling dumbbells around at home, hop on a bike and ride the rail trails, or head out for a walk. Whatever method of fitness you chose, just record your start and end time each session. Write it down and add it up through the week.
Guidelines:
- Don’t count the time it takes you to drive to the gym, or the time you spend fiddling with your
I-pod trying to find the perfect playlist, or socializing at the water fountain, Record just the time you spend actually exercising.
- It doesn’t have to be all out effort gasping for breath with your muscles screaming for mercy,
but to count it must raise your heart rate at least a bit. On a scale of 1-10 in difficulty ( RPE) , aim for a level above 4 – 5.
(In training, we use the “rate of perceived exertion” scale–RPE for short –to
determine how hard you are working. Each person’s RPE will be different.
What may be a 5 RPE for you may seem more difficult for your neighbor and
therefore be a 7 RPE for him/her.)
- Don’t guess, or try to remember, use a clock or a watch and write it down.
That’s it. Easy!
So, will you take this challenge?
If so, let me know how you do!
